Trading Faces Portrait Showcase 2024

July 15 - October 14, 2024
Elemental Coffee
815 N Hudson Ave | OKC, OK 73102

In late 2023, Todd E. Clark and Moth Delony-Buller met at an Oklahoma City art market. The two became quick friends. Both being portrait artists, they decided to create each other's portraits. As they continued to talk about the process, an idea for a group show started to form: to invite other portrait artists and pair them up to create portraits of each other. With help from Elemental Coffee, their idea has come to life! See paintings here from 10 unique portrait artists who are not only the creators but also the subjects.

All the artists are open to commissions. You can find a QR code throughout the shop with information on how to commission any artist in the show.

PARTICIPATING ARTISTS

Moth Delony-Buller

Pronouns: it/they/he

Artist Bio:
Moth Delony-Buller is a self-taught artist from Dallas, Texas currently living in Oklahoma City. Delony-Buller’s practice includes found materials, crafts, collage, painting, and drawing; combining an array of mediums to produce layered works that explore both the joy of queer liberation and love as well as the impact of capitalism on the psyche and outlook of their generation. Frequently donned in all pink ensembles and sporting pink hair and drawn on eyebrows (also pink, of course), Delony-Buller finds that their presentation as a person is an extension of their artistic practice saying that “in my life and my art, I try to emulate the openness and honesty that we have as children…I create art to help myself and others connect to their kid self again.” The themes at work in Delony-Buller’s art are at once intimate and universal: expressing at once, the artist’s personal experiences and reaching out to show the viewer how similar we all really are — extending a hand to welcome you into their world.

Moan’s multi-media pieces incorporate narratives that touch on issues important to Moan, such as climate change, philosophical ideas, and topics affecting the world at large. Most often layered in a 3-dimensional format Moan’s art focuses on experimenting with storytelling through a combination of her main mediums of choice: screen printing, relief printmaking, acrylic, and clay. Each of these mediums have patterns and texture that she explores in each piece. Moan is drawn to nature because of the mystery it holds. From enchanted clouds to color saturated butterfly wings creates a sense of familiarity, builds connections with the viewer. Juxtaposed materials create visions influenced by not only the patterns found in nature but also the memories working alongside grandparents and my mother. Dottie Sutter

Pronouns: she/they

Artist Bio: Hi, I'm Dottie. I am a black and indigenous nonbinary artist. I was born in Edmond, Oklahoma and I have never strayed too far from home. No matter how far I wander, something always pulls me back to where I am from. As an Oklahoma native, I've always wanted to be a part of the creative community here and offer my own unique contribution. I am inspired by pop art, especially pulp fiction book illustrations, comic books, and vintage advertisements. My style continues to evolve over time as I seek new inspiration, but I love playing with both bright colors and black and white. I use my art to explore my spirituality, painting otherworldly scenes with goddesses. My favorite way to create, however, in is a black and white illustrative style with crisp, intentional lines. I'm always willing to learn, grow and broaden my horizons.

Salvador B. Jasso

Medium: ink on paper

Salvador B. Jasso

Pronouns: he/him

Artist Bio: Ever the Versatile Deviant, I am constantly moving from concept to concept. All while attempting to maintain my core believes of personal expressive freedom. I'll sew cuddly plushes, then monster plushes. Create daily use leather bags, then private use leather bondage. Then bounce between caring family watercolors, then surreal erotic portraits. I truly believe that too much of our lives is spent having been convinced that we must limit ourselves, followed by unlearning these things so that we can actually be who we are. Taking this wonderful opportunity to work on this project to try new things with new people. And a portrait of someone whom has expressed their own transitional process being very present in their life. I would describe my paintings as surreal life portraits. Often flooded with heavy dark shadows that are combined with colorful details that are both contrasting and natural. Hiding unreal elements in various ways that sometimes go completely unnoticed.
